Players pick up community champion awards

Clarets Zian Flemming and Naomi Hartley both collected trophies at Monday evening's Northwest Football Awards in Manchester.

The players were recognised for their contribution to the local community and charity, as they picked up the PFA Championship Community Champion for the 2024/25 season and PFA Women’s National League Community Champion, respectively.

Last season the players visited a variety of community projects, from local primary schools to Turf Talk sessions and Walking Football parties.

Taking home the award on the evening, Flemming said: "We don't do the community visits to win an award, but it is great to be recognised.

"When we’re out and about I just try to bring a smile to people’s faces and make it a good day. It's about the personal contact with the fans. It’s also been good for me to see how much Burnley does in the community through all the different appearances. It just reminds you of how big an impact the Club has on people’s lives.”

Hartley added: “It’s amazing to win tonight. I’m a local girl so it’s quite nice to feel like I’m inspiring those around me. I just want to lead by example and hopefully give the children and young people I meet something to aspire to be like.

“I’ve loved going to the schools, meeting all the individuals who are coming to watch us play. It’s been nice to have that one-to-one contact because you don’t really see that when you’re playing. It’s been good to connect with the community off the pitch."

Burnley FC in the Community were also winners on the night as they collected the Community Initiative of the Season - All Other Leagues trophy for their changing the 'STEM Story in Burnley'. A primary school project that aims to raise aspirations in science, technology, engineering, and maths.
