Tony Philliskirk's side fell to a 1-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon on Thursday evening as the Clarets were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup third-round at Plough Lane.
It was a tight contest in the capital, but the Dons broke the deadlock in the 80th minute as substitute Paris Lock slid the ball home from close range to claim the winner.
And Philliskirk admitted his disappointment after his side missed out on a fourth-round home tie with Tottenham Hotspur in the next round.
The youth team chief said: "It's certainly not the result we wanted at all and disappointed is a very mild way of putting it.
"I just said to the players after the game, we have been great this season and it was a young team, but that opened up opportunities for others tonight and those opportunities weren't taken.
"I don't like saying this, but did AFC Wimbeldon want it more than us tonight?
"From the sidelines that is what it looked liked, as too many of the players under-performed, in and out of possession.
"We gave the ball away too cheaply, our intensity in our play was poor, the detail in our passing was poor and apart from Michael Mellon's one-shot in the second-half, we didn't create anything.
"It's unlike us, but it was just a really disappointing night,. I've been here two years now, but that is probably the most disappointed I have been.
"I have to say the lads have been great this season and I do feel for them a bit, as they know they have underperformed.
"But these are the games you get judged on as a player. You don't win and you're out, and the bottom line is, we are out."
