Tony Philliskirk’s U18s host West Ham United on Tuesday evening – 24th January – in the Fourth Round of the FA Youth Cup at the County Ground in Leyland (7pm KO).
Entry remains at just £3 for adults and £1 for concessions following a late change in venue confirmed & announced yesterday.
The Young Clarets head into the tie against the Hammers on the back of consecutive victories. Last time out, they beat Hull City 1-0 in the U18 Professional Development League with Polish youth international Wiktor Gromek on the scoresheet.
And before that was their Third Round success in the FA Youth Cup, a pulsating penalty shoot-out victory at home against Norwich City.
Captain Joe Westley’s strike had put Philliskirk’s side ahead before Norwich’s leveller in the second half took it to extra time, and after a contentious penalty enabled the Canaries to get their noses in front, Lucas Wane came off the bench to net a late equaliser for Burnley to send the tie all the way to a shoot-out.
18 spot kicks were taken, with goalkeeper Charlie Casper the hero in saving two as well as scoring one, with the Young Clarets running out 7-6 victors.
Now, with a spot in the Fifth Round and a trip to face Stoke City at stake, Burnley go up against Kevin Keen’s West Ham.
At U18 level, the Hammers are the most in-form team in the country at the moment.
In a run which stretches back to April 2022, Keen’s side have won 18 of their last 19 in all competitions with the only blot on their copy book a defeat to Nottingham Forest in October in the U18 Premier League Cup.
Beating Aston Villa 5-2 last time out, Keen’s side top the U18 Southern Premier League with 100%-winning record and 36 points to their name, 16 clear of 2nd-placed Crystal Palace.
In the last round of the FA Youth Cup, the Hammers beat Sheffield United 3-2 away from home. 18-year-old Divin Mubama netted a brace against the Blades, and has 10 goals this season so far including four at U21 level.
The striker has also already made his first-team debut, starting up front in the UEFA Europa Conference League for David Moyes’ side away at FCSB in November, also featuring in the Premier League against leaders Arsenal as a late substitute.
