Burnley’s Emirates FA Cup campaign commences with a trip to the South Coast on Saturday afternoon – 7th January – where they will face AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in Third Round action (3pm KO).
The Clarets head into the tie on the back of six straight league victories and just three defeats in 29 games so far this term (all competitions), most recently winning 2-1 at Swansea City on Monday afternoon to begin 2023 on the front foot.
Sat top of the Sky Bet Championship table, Dutch full back Ian Maatsen made the difference in South Wales, netting the first-ever brace of his career with a sweetly hit free-kick which was followed soon after by a venomous left-footed strike from the edge of the area.
A two-time FA Cup winner in his own playing career, Kompany now takes charge of a first game in the competition as the manager of Burnley, who lifted it in 1914.

AFC Bournemouth
Surviving relegation to avoid exiting the Football League on the final day of the 2008/09 season, the Cherries rose through the pyramid and reached the Premier League for the first time with promotion in the 2014/15 campaign.
Relegated in 2019/20, they then lost the play-off semi-final to Brentford the following season before earning promotion back to the top flight last season as runners-up in the Sky Bet Championship.
The Cherries this term started slowly and parted ways with Scott Parker after four league games, handing the reins to coach Gary O’Neil on a temporary basis before appointing him to the role permanently back in November.
Bournemouth - who have never won the FA Cup - now sit 16th in the Premier League, one point outside the relegation places. O’Neil’s men head into Saturday’s cup tie on the back of four straight defeats, the last three of which in the top flight to Chelsea, Crystal Palace & Manchester United respectively.
The Last Time we Met
Including when the Cherries were recognised as ‘Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic’, the two Clubs have met each other 33 times with the Clarets victors in 15 of those.
Five of the 33 have come in the FA Cup, including the most recent meeting which was behind closed doors at Turf Moor back in February 2021. Then managed by Jonathan Woodgate, Bournemouth progressed into the last eight of the competition with a 2-0 win.
Before that however, Burnley had been successful in the pair’s previous four face-offs including the last one on the South Coast in December 2019.
Jay Rodriguez’s 89th-minute winner provided the travelling faithful with an early Christmas present as the Clarets picked up a 50th Premier League clean sheet in a 1-0 win.
