Clarets boss looks ahead to Wednesday's trip to Forest

Manager Vincent Kompany insists the Clarets can't treat Wednesday night's Carabao Cup clash at Nottingham Forest any differently to a Premier League fixture.

Burnley head to the City Ground in the League Cup second round in the first away match of the season and Kompany urges his side to not only use it as a match to improve but to try get the first win on the board.

The Clarets reached both the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup last campaign and Kompany is hoping his side can kickstart a cup run on Wednesday evening similar to last season.

Kompany said: “It’s an important game for us again to keep improving as much as we can and try get that first win.

“It’s a competition like last year that we felt we had a good run-in, like the FA Cup too and I think our fans enjoyed it.

“It would be nice to go on another run like that again and hopefully we can start that on Wednesday with a win.

“Every game is important for us and we can’t ever put on the shirt and treat it any differently than the fact we have to win."

Saturday's opponents Tottenham take on Fulham on Tuesday evening with the Clarets facing Forest 24 hours later in Nottingham.

Kompany knows he will have to manage the gametime of his players carefully with another league match just three days later.

“I think the main point we also have to be aware of is that Forest have a day extra recovery for this game and then Tottenham on Saturday have an extra day too as they play on Tuesday.

“So, we just have to make sure we don’t give ourselves a disadvantage in both games and just look and manage that very carefully with gametime."
