Defender reflects on the first week of pre-season training

Maxime Esteve admits although the Clarets have been put through their paces in the first week back following the summer break, the France U21 defender says it's an 'amazing environment' to be around and work in.

The centre-back, who signed permanently following his loan spell in the second half of last season, is pleased to be back at the Burnley Training Centre as the hard work for the upcoming season begins.

Speaking to BurnleyFootballClub.com, the 22-year-old reflected on how the first week has been for him and his teammates and highlighted the 'atmosphere' around training.

“It’s nice, it’s good! Very good to be back. The weather has been good, there’s some new faces that I have met with the players coming back from loans.

“We have Sambo who is new and there’s some new coaches and staff too, so it’s been a good atmosphere for the first week back. There is still some players to come back but the group we have so far is good and it’s a good environment to be around."

Esteve added: “The training has been very intense; the standard has been really high. Everyone has turned up in good condition and each day is getting a little bit tougher for training but it's also fun!

“We had a good 11v11 session on the weekend and it was good to get back into the game mode. The coaches want a tough intensity and that’s what we have done so far, but we are enjoying it also!”

With the Championship fixtures confirmed last week, Esteve already has his eyes on a 'challenging' season opener as the Clarets travel to Luton Town on the opening weekend.
