Maxime Estève said he was feeling disappointed following Saturday's goalless draw with Preston North End.
The centre-back who was named Player of the Match was keen to take positives from the Clarets league position but described it as a game he feels they should have won.
Reflecting on another Lancashire Derby at Turf Moor and another point from it, he said: “I’m disappointed because to me we lost two points. It’s ok to draw, a clean sheet, but for me we need to win these types of game at home, a derby. With our objective for the team, it’s important to win the three points.
“We are disappointed but it’s life. We are a new team, we’re in the top six, it’s positive. However, in the future we need to win these games, at home it’s very important.”
And what was the message at full-time?
“It was we’re sad but it’s life you know. We need to go straight and focus on the next game against Sheffield Wednesday. So, focus on this. There’s the international break. We need to improve, we know this. I’m repeating this but we are a new team - that’s important.
“We’re in the top six, we've conceded four goals, I think? We need to improve for sure but I’m confident about this, about the situation, about the future. We’ll improve.”
It was an excellent display from the 22-year-old, who received a positive reception from supporters when announced as Player of the Match. With the game securing Scott Parker's men, a third clean sheet in a row.
“Yes, it’s positive but I’d prefer to have three points today. It’s ok to be a great performance from the defence but it’s not only me, it’s with Traff, the centre-back, with the midfielders, strikers, with everyone.
“It’s positive but we need to win. It’s the most important thing for me and for the team.”
A win today offered the Clarets the opportunity to go top of the Championship table and Estève has his eyes set on that first spot.
“We needed points today; we want to win the league so it’s very important. For me we lost two points at Oxford, and we lost two points here. I’m disappointed because we if won these two games we’re first. Our objective is to be first.”
Finally, today's derby was the last before the international break in which the defender will link up with his national team the U21s. However, whilst looking forward to the experience, he's keen to get back to Championship action with the Clarets.
“Yes, I’m happy, it’s my country so it’s good.
“I hope I come back soon though, just so we can get back to it straight away. I hope that the next game comes very quickly.”
