Boss Sean Dyche says his ever-improving side are on the brink of discovering the perfect Premier League balance after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Crystal Palace.
Ben Mee, Chris Wood and a Maxwel Cornet stunner grabbed a point for the Clarets after a Christian Benteke double and Marc Guehi’s strike left Burnley trailing at the break.
But Dyche’s resilient team twice hauled themselves back from behind to clinch their ninth point of the season and remain just two adrift of safety.
The Gaffer hailed his team’s consistency throughout the season and reckons it’s only a matter of time until they clamber up the table.
Dyche said: “I’ve said this since the beginning of the season – I’ve been actually pleased with the consistency of the performance levels.
“We’re getting on the right sides of the games – and that’s an important part of the Premier League.
“When you’re not one of the superpowers, you have to get the margins right. We have generally done so lately – [we conceded] a couple of soft ones today but generally, we’re correcting that and we do look a threat.
“We are finding a better mixture and better balance – some of the play was good today. We want to play effectively – and everyone knows that.
“I’m generally happy with the performance levels – but never naïve enough to know that the league table has to change, and we can change it.”
The Clarets went behind after just eight minutes when Benteke fired in off a Nick Pope post after a slight James Tarkowski deflection.
But captain fantastic Mee – lauded by the footballing world this week for sharing his story about the premature birth of his daughter – powered home an unstoppable header to level it up just 11 minutes later.
In-form Wood’s intelligent header turned the tables but as a see-saw first half unfolded, Benteke scored again to restore parity for Palace.
Guehi’s strike left the Clarets with work to do after the break but then up popped summer signing Cornet, who fired in a sizzling left-footed volley at the back post to equalise once more and send Turf Moor into raptures.
Dyche revelled in the Ivorian ace’s thunderbolt and added: “I’ve seen it back and it’s a lovely clean strike.
“He watches the ball so well right the way onto his feet. He’s not looking at where it might go – he’s watched it onto his foot, struck it superbly well and it’s a fantastic goal.
“We’re enjoying what he’s doing – and he’s still getting towards true Premier League fitness. He’s brought energy and quality as well – and his finish was a fine strike.”
Burnley host Antonio Conte’s Tottenham next Sunday as a crucial period of fixtures continue ahead of the hectic festive period.
Dyche wants his players to continue channelling their never-say-die attitude and hopes building on their strong second-half performance can lay the platform for progression.
The Clarets chief said: “First half we didn’t start well – we were on the back foot, not front foot.
“But then we corrected that and I was pleased with some of the first half. But second half was a different story – we pressed them, got a lot higher up the pitch in our performance and the way we operated, and I was pleased with that.
“You could get disappointed after going down 3-2 at half-time, but we came out second half, scored a fantastic goal, had a couple of chances and good moments but their keeper made some fine saves.
“We’re definitely going in the right direction the way we’re going about our business.”
