The Clarets boss spoke about the visit of the Blues, the demands of the squad, his midfield options and moving forward.
Dyche on Chelsea:
“I think you certainly need to play well against these sorts of sides and in my experience, you must perform very well to win against these teams. We have been very good at that, and the players know they are and put in a top performance.
“They are a very strong outfit, so we must be realistic, but equally we have found ways of operating against them.
“We were strong against Manchester United in the second-half, strong against Liverpool, where we should have got something more out of it, and Tottenham, so we have the spirit and the mentality. The fans can understand that, especially when a bigger teams come to Turf Moor, these are the games for the players, where you’ve got to play well.”
Dyche on squad demands and schedule:
“We ask a lot of these players; the next game is the most important and we know what players need and their schedule.
“There’s a lot to it, in terms of demands, whether players are playing or not, but we must make them sharp and ready for the next game and that’s the challenge.
“There is a big risk and reward for us with the game schedule, Covid situations, games called off and rescheduled, so there's a lot more to it. We have to make sure that we are as ready as we possibly can be."
Dyche on midfield options:
“Corky (Jack Cork) has been playing very well, Westy (Ashley Westwood) we know is a quality player and what he brings. Josh (Brownhill) has been steady, he’s looked comfortable, and he’s been terrific, so we’ve got a current trio of midfielders, while Dale (Stephens) is still not quite fit.
“Corky and Westy have continued to impress, and Josh has settled in at Premier League level.”
Dyche on moving forward:
“The reaction has been good, it’s the first time we’ve come off the back of a real performance of inconsistency, we gave away two sloppy goals in the end that cost us. However, the general performance wasn’t far off, it wasn’t as clear minded as we’ve shown recently. We are a constant work in progress, and the players are doing a lot.
“We think we can challenge and be competitive against anyone in this division, so that’s how we’ll go into this game.
“You must play well in any game in the Premier League, you must be ready with the right mentality and to put a shift in physically, play your part and we’ll continue to do that.
“We know that we have done well in the last seven games by getting the details right and we have to remind ourselves of how important that is.”
