Josh Cullen has expressed that everyone is "excited and ready to go" as the Clarets gear up to begin their campaign at Luton Town on Monday night.
Ahead of the trip southwards, the midfielder shared his thoughts on the squad's mood during Friday's press conference at the Burnley Training Centre.
Cullen emphasized the positive outlook of the group, despite many of them experiencing relegation last season: “We’re certainly looking forward to the season. Any negative mindsets left from last season have been put to bed now, and we’re looking forward to a fresh start.”
Regarding the trip to Kenilworth Road, Cullen acknowledged that it will be a "tough game," but one that he and his teammates are eager to embrace.
"It’s always a tough place to go. I’m sure it’ll be a good atmosphere there with our travelling fans, as well, to add to that.
“It’s two teams that have come down from the Premier League on a Monday night under the lights—it's a game we are relishing!”
Cullen spoke highly of new Head Coach Scott Parker, noting the positive impact he has already made during pre-season.
The Ireland midfielder said: “It goes without saying that when a new manager comes in, he has fresh ideas and a fresh approach.
“I can’t speak highly enough of how he’s been with the group so far. It’s been a really enjoyable pre-season with a lot of hard work.”
Parker and Cullen share some common ground, having both played in similar positions and spent time at Charlton Athletic and West Ham United. The 28-year-old sees this as a significant advantage for his personal growth.
“His career speaks for itself, playing in a similar position to myself. I’m very fortunate to have him as a manager and I’m looking forward to learning from him and taking every piece of advice he can give me.”
As for the Clarets’ style of play, the Republic of Ireland international hopes the fans will have plenty to cheer for, both in Bedfordshire and beyond.
“Hopefully we’re going to excite people this season. We’re going to be on the front foot, and we’ll be an aggressive team. We want to dominate and win games.
“The attitude is that we know promotion is what is expected from us this season.”
