Midfielder on the team effort that secured a great season

Josh Cullen bagged two awards at Tuesday's Champions Parade, with the midfielder voted the Club's Players' Player of the Season and the Vertu Motors Player of the Season voted for by the fans.

Speaking on the day, the Republic of Ireland international credited his teammates, manager and coaching staff for the win and thanked fans for the recognition.

“The weather’s a little bit different than it was on Monday obviously for the celebrations after the game. It’s great, the weather’s nice and the fans have come out in great numbers. We’re having a great day and looking forward to the bus parade.”

On receiving the two awards he added: “It means a lot to get the recognition for decent performances over the year is great. I’m always someone who thinks of it as a team and a collective and I think I wouldn’t be able to perform the way I have without all the other lads and the whole squad as a whole. So, it’s obviously great to get the two awards but the main one was the one we picked up on Monday. I’m happy, it’s been a good season.”

The midfielder has made the joint most appearances for the Clarets this season, alongside Connor Roberts and is delighted with the team's success.

“It’s been good hasn’t it, I mean we probably couldn’t have wished for it to go any better. To get over 100 points, to win the league, to get promoted, if anyone would have said that at the start of the season, we would have snapped anyone’s hand off. To be able to do that with a new squad coming together as well, a lot of new faces, new staff, credit to the lads who were here last year as well and have bounced back from the disappointment.

“It’s been an unbelievable season and I’m just happy to have played a part in it.”

Cullen was Vincent Kompany's sixth signing under his tenure when he joined the Club at the beginning of the season, with the two having spent time together at Anderlecht.

“When I first signed, I was sort of sceptical of saying it, but I knew how good of a manager he was, and I knew that he would be a success here. I can probably say it now that we’ve been promoted and won the league and how well the season’s gone so yes, a massive credit to him and I’m sure all the lads would say the same. We learn so much, not only from him but his staff every day, and we feel like we’re always improving and getting better as a team. It’s massive credit to him.”

Finally, following the celebrations the midfield engine was asked if he was going to get any rest over the summer, in which he added: “Well, I’ve got a couple of weeks and then I’ve got internationals with Ireland, so it never really stops!

"I mean as footballers when you love your job like we do, once you have a week, 10 days break, then you’re itching to get back to it anyway. The break I do get I’ll enjoy, go away with my fiancé, my family and enjoy it but once that times over it’ll be looking forward to the Premier League and we’ll all be excited by that challenge.”
