Burnley boss Scott Parker believes his Clarets side will need to show courage and control against Liverpool this weekend.

The champions visit Turf Moor on Sunday afternoon, currently perched at the summit of the Premier League table with three wins from their three league outings to date.

Parker is relishing locking horns with Arne Slot’s squad, and believes his side's performances so far this term stand them in good stead for the challenge of a fixture against the Reds.

“For us it comes down to control and courage,” said Parker.

“Control in how we play and react in every moment, and courage to step forward and back ourselves against the champions.

“We’ll need to be disciplined and composed, keep calm in certain moments. And we’ll need to be brave and believe in each other, which is something this squad has in abundance.”

Parker - speaking to the media after the international break - added: “I don’t think our season will be defined by games like this. But it’s a challenge we want to embrace and that’s what we’ll do.

“These games are huge challenges, make no mistake. We’re playing against arguably one of the best teams in the world. They’re a very strong side.

“They’ve got huge quality all over the pitch but I’m excited about what our lads can do to try and get an edge and expose certain areas. We’ll certainly try our best to do that.

“When the boys cross the line, the eyes won’t lie. There’ll be an endeavour and bravery about this team, like there always is. That’s a given for Burnley.”
