Maxwel Cornet has wasted no time bursting on to the Burnley scene – and the Clarets’ new signing has now capped a whirlwind start to life at Turf Moor by being voted as the club’s Player of the Month.
Over 2000 supporters voted for the September award and Cornet, who arrived from Lyon in the summer, scooped the prestigious gong.
The Ivorian ace has rapidly adapted to life in the Premier League and been in sensational form for Sean Dyche’s men, already scoring several key goals.
Cornet announced himself to Clarets fans by netting his first in the 2-2 draw against Leicester last month, rifling a stunning half-volley into the corner at the King Power Stadium.
And the 25-year-old star, who can play at both full-back and higher up the field, has already racked up three goals in his first four appearances, with his brilliant double at Southampton at the weekend also earning the Clarets a point.
Cornet’s goalscoring ability is not the only thing that has caught the eye, however, with his playmaking attributes and pace also stirring up plenty of excitement amongst the Burnley faithful.
The 4-1 defeat of Rochdale in the Carabao Cup was a prime example of this, with the African having a role in three of Jay Rodriguez’s four goals and assisting the opener with a sumptuous teasing corner.
The form of Burnley’s number 20 has continued into October too, with Cornet scoring both goals in the 2-2 draw at St Mary’s on Saturday.
Boss Dyche is impressed with Cornet’s start to life at Turf Moor but insists he is far from surprised by the success of the new signing.
He said: “He was up and running at Lyon and playing season in and season out. He came in generally in a good shape.
"It is still early – we like what he is doing and how he is rubbing off on the team.
"He is still adapting to the Premier League. There are some very good signs there.”
As a result of Cornet’s Player of the Month crown, one of our lucky fans, Kate Sherry, will now receive a signed Cornet shirt.
And with the season now in full swing, keep your eyes on burnleyfc.com for the voting for the October Player of the Month award to go live early next week.
