Clarets duo take on first steps of coaching badges

Captain Jack Cork and Ashley Barnes have recently undertaken the initial steps of the UEFA B Licence coaching badge.

The pair led the U18s' training sessions for three consecutive days across the week, setting up warm-ups, conducting drills and managing training games.

Cork said: "We are trying to start our coaching pathway and there's a few different places we can do it, but we thought this is the best place to do it.

"Get to know the younger lads, the academy coaches and staff, the standard has been brilliant and the group have been amazing to work with.

"You spend so long planning session beforehand, wanting to people to like it then when you get out there and the session starts, it feels quite natural, it's just more the timings to get your head round, but I've really enjoyed it so far."

Barnes added: "It's a really good experience, from planning the sessions, to getting out there and taking them.

"Being out there on the pitch is all we know, so taking that then into a coaching session is interesting and hopefully also putting a smile on their faces."

Academy Director Paul Jenkins said: "Jack Cork and Ashley Barnes have been doing their B licence over the last few days.

"It's the first step on the coaching ladder, hopefully we have the coaches of tomorrow and our senior players are making that first step.

"Ian Jones and Ash Higgins have been putting them through their paces, it's a great experience for both the first team lads and our U18s players as well."
