Monday night's Championship clash with Sheffield United will be the Club's dedicated Andy's Man Club fixture.
In August 2022, Burnley Football Club asked supporters to vote for the two charity partners the Club would support for the 2022/23 season, with each receiving a dedicated matchday fixture.
After receiving thousands of votes, the two chosen charities were confirmed as Andy’s Man Club and the Veterans’ Foundation.
Andy’s Man Club began in mid-2016 when nine men met in a small room in Halifax. Their aim that night was simple; to talk through their issues and help each other deal with the struggles they had in their lives. Everyone in the room agreed there was a magic that needed to be shared and so began a movement that’s grown faster than anyone involved could have ever imagined.
Fast forward seven years and Andy’s Man Club now has 120 locations across England, Scotland and Wales hosting free-to-attend talking groups that run every Monday evening at 7pm.
The organisation takes it’s name from Andrew Roberts; a young man who sadly took his own life in 2016, aged just 23. Andy’s family had no inkling he was suffering or struggling and had no indication this was about to happen and they wanted to help and prevent other families from going through what they had.
They set up Andy’s Man Club, a group where men aged 18 and above, can speak openly about their mental health in a judgment-free, non-clinical environment. Groups now operate nationwide and are completely volunteer-led, with all group facilitators having first interacted when they came through the door as a service user.
Over 2,600 men visit an Andy’s Man Club group every single week with over 700 volunteers on board to help them and it’s continuing to grow.
Andy’s Man Club opened a group in Burnley almost a year ago after forming a partnership with Burnley FC in the Community. Monday catch-ups are held in the Jimmy McIlroy Stand here at Turf Moor and hundreds of local men have walked through the doors for help and support over the past 12 months.
