Burnley Football Club are delighted to have raised over £38,000 for Alzheimer’s Society over the course of a season of fundraising.
The Clarets pledged their support for the charity last summer, with a range of initiatives raising funds for the thousands of people across the nation affected by dementia, and were supported in their efforts by their Principal Partner Spreadex Sports.
Upon unveiling their 2021/22 third kit earlier this season, the Club announced that £5 from every adult shirt sold would be donated to Alzheimer’s Society with that amount matched by Spreadex.
Fans were also encouraged to share their personal matchday stories for a living library of memories as part of the #MyTurfMemories campaign.
Burnley FC are backing Alzheimer’s Society’s Sport United Against Dementia campaign, which is bringing the sporting world together to create real and lasting change for people affected by dementia.
The campaign aims to increase awareness of dementia, break down the stigma and ensure people know support is available through Alzheimer’s Society’s services. This vital work will also focus on making the sports industry more dementia friendly and fund crucial research to better understand the connections between sport and dementia, providing hope for future generations.

Last year, Burnley FC players showed their support for the charity when the first team donned one-off charity shirts for the Carabao Cup fixture against Rochdale. Spreadex Sports donated their sponsorship and matchday hospitality meaning the company’s logo was replaced with the Alzheimer’s Society branding to help raise awareness of the charity’s work on World Alzheimer’s Day.
The match worn shirts from the game were placed into a raffle for fans to win, with all money raised from the £5 raffle ticket going to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Gordon Kaye, Commercial Director at Burnley FC said: “I’m thrilled that as a Club we have raised such an incredible amount for Alzheimer’s Society.
“The response we received to the third shirt campaign was fantastic and thank you to all of the fans who purchased a shirt and supported the raffle.
“Our Principal Partner Spreadex have been brilliant during the campaign, donating their shirt logo space for the Rochdale game not only helped us to raise vital funds for such an important cause, but also helped generate awareness of Alzheimer’s Society’s Sport United Against Dementia campaign and the life-changing work the charity is carrying out every day. I’m so pleased the campaign has been such a success.”

David MacKenzie, Spreadex Managing Director said: “We are thrilled at the amount of third shirts sold and delighted that this has resulted in Spreadex being able to contribute towards Burnley Football Club’s charitable activities.”
Tara Edwards, Alzheimer’s Society’s Lancashire and Cumbria Area Manager, said: “We were absolutely delighted to learn that Burnley FC has raised £38,000 for Alzheimer’s Society.
“By getting involved through initiatives like buying the third shirt and supporting the raffle the Club’s dedicated fans have raised much needed funds, which will enable us to reach more people living with dementia.
“We’re also really proud to be working with Burnley FC on our Sports United Against Dementia Campaign.
“Burnley FC has already been doing some incredible work to support people living with dementia in the local community and we hope to see more Clubs follow in The Claret’s footsteps to help ensure no one faces dementia alone.
“The pandemic has been a very difficult time for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s Society support services have been used over six million times since March 2020. But thanks to the efforts of fundraisers like Burnley FC we can provide a lifeline to the to the 900,000 people across the UK living with dementia, 17,000 of which are in Lancashire.”
The Club are delighted to have surpassed their fundraising target of £30,000, with the exceeded total highlighting the generosity of Clarets fans far and wide.
There are a limited number of third shirts still available to purchase from the Clarets Store online and in-store.
