Earlier this month, Burnley Football Club & Burnley Football Club in the Community were proud to show our continued support for Show Racism the Red Card as the anti-racism charity hosted workshops at Turf Moor.
90 young people from schools in the local community were invited as they developed their understanding of what racism is, stereotypes, and the importance of reporting racism.
In the morning session, the children were joined by Jack Cork & CJ Egan-Riley from the men’s senior team along with Jonathan Morgan, the manager of Burnley FC Women.
Speaking during the event, Cork said: “No one should ever feel left out because of their race, or - as a child said earlier on - their disability, or anything that makes someone feel out of place.
“Everyone should feel included in everything that they do, and no one should be left out of anything.
“It’s good to promote it [the anti-racism message] as much as possible. The more people feel they can be in a safe environment in football and in the world, the better.”
From the U21s squad, Sam Waller & Benn Ward then joined the youngsters for their afternoon session, assisting the children with their workshop, offering advice and answering questions to try and enhance their learning.
During the ‘panel questions’ section, Waller referred back to the videos the children had been shown earlier in the day produced by Show Racism the Red Card, saying: “The videos we’ve sat watched today in this scheme, everyone in them was from a different part of the world and has grown up differently.
“It’s just important that everyone treats each other equally and has the same respect from you that you’d like to receive. Being kind and looking after each other is the most important thing.”
Rounding off the day, the school children were also taken on a tour of Turf Moor.
We are Burnley Football Club, we are One Club for All, and we will continue to support the anti-racism message promoted by charities like Show Racism the Red Card.
