Manager Vincent Kompany was pleased to see his side push Spurs all the way and highlighted the improvements his team have made over the recent weeks despite falling to defeat in the Emirates FA Cup third round at Tottenham.
Burnley gave Spurs a tight contest in North London and created several opportunities but it took a wonder strike from Pedro Porro in the 79th minute to separate the two sides.
Speaking post-match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Kompany discussed the Clarets’ impressive display and says his side just need to add the ‘final pieces’ to complete a performance.
The Burnley boss said: “It was a battle out there for 97 minutes, right until the end of the game and for us that’s a clear sign of improvement.
“I’ve never known the mood of the camp to be a bit joyful after a defeat, obviously we’re disappointed with the result but it’s just those key moments now.
“You know, I think we’ve earned the right to be in those games and to play these type of games. At the beginning of the season the gap was too big and what you can see today it’s just that final piece we need to bring.
“If you watch the beginning of the season, you would see the improvements made by the team and if you watch out last 12 games, we have been in them.

“Every game has undeniably been a performance with effort, moments and chances but in key moments you can get undone - and that’s how we level up, that’s how we get results, that’s how we make the next step. Some games we create more chances and clearer chances and we’ll just have to keep working on it.
“The training ground is a beautiful place to get improvements made and we’re looking forward to our next game now, we keep going.”
Friday’s result sees the Clarets now only play two more games in January, after hosting Luton Town on Monday 15th Burnley take on Manchester City on the final day of the month and Kompany says he will look to benefit from extra training session with free weekends.
“I don’t mind having a lot of games, I was used to a lot of games and busy schedule last season in the Championship.

“I would’ve said i was more training sessions and less games but I actually think the more games the better for us.
“We just have to keep playing those games and eventually it will turn, that’s my belief but for now I’m excited to go to work and continue working with this team.
“We can have extra training over the month with less fixtures and we will look to make use of the time.”
