Burnley v Aston Villa - 27/01/21
Chris Wood's dramatic late winner capped off a memorable turnaround after the Clarets came from behind twice at Turf Moor to beat Aston Villa 3-2.
Trailing at the break to Ollie Watkins' opener, Burnley equalised through skipper Ben Mee seven minutes into the second half.
Jack Grealish then regained the lead for Dean Smith's side before two goals in three minutes from Dwight McNeil and Wood secured the victory in Lancashire.
First Half
After an even start, it took just 14 minutes for the Villans to take the lead through Watkins' sweet strike as the former Brentford man steered home Matt Targett's superb low cross for his 10th goal of the 2020/21 campaign.
It was a night to remember for Nick Pope, after the shot-stopper was called into action to deny Watkins adding a second of the night, before Ross Barkley saw his stinging volley pushed onto the crossbar by the Burnley No.1.
Moments later, Pope then palmed away a close range effort from Tyrone Mings and then pulled off another fantastic stop to stop Targett doubling the visitors' lead.
The Clarets had little response to Villa's dominance at Turf Moor and Pope was at the centre of the stage again just before the break to deny Grealish and Traore.
Second Half
The importance of Pope's first half display was highlighted seven minutes into the second half as Mee's towering header from Ashley Westwood's corner found the back of the net to draw things level with over an hour to play.
Although the home side were back in the game and posing much more a threat than the first half, Villa remainder a danger in every attack towards goal.
Grealish came close to regaining the lead on the hour mark but again Pope was there to push the forward's strike wide of the goal after a scintillating run.
But Villa did retake the lead eight minutes later and it was Grealish who delivered the blow as the Villa No.10 played a neat one-two with Douglas Luis before unleashing the ball into the bottom corner from inside the area.
Burnley had 20 minutes left on the clock to ignite a comeback and it was McNeil who sparked it in the 76th minute, after the winger's low fizzing cross into the area beat Emi Martinez and pulled the scores level once again.
The turnaround was then complete three minutes after the equaliser and McNeil was involved once again, this time his cross was delivered perfectly onto the head of Wood in the area to power home into the bottom corner past a stranded Martinez and secure all three points with just 10 minutes left to play.
