Burnley Football Club are seeking enthusiastic, caring and supportive host family providers to support our aspiring academy talents as they live away from home to enhance their development.
We are looking for families to provide homely and quality accommodation in the Burnley, Padiham and surrounding areas for five to seven nights per week during the entire football season.
Host families are required to provide a nutritional evening meal for the players, with breakfast and lunch being provided by the Club at the Burnley Training Centre.
In return for their assistance in the players’ development, host families receive a set monthly allowance which is provided by the Club for the cost of the accommodation and meals provided.
In addition, there are benefits including access to match tickets for Burnley’s first-team home fixtures at Turf Moor throughout the campaign.
U18s midfielder Sonny Pickup has lived in Host Family accommodation since July, and feels it has enhanced his experience in the first year of his scholarship, saying: “Being with a host family is like an extension of home.
“Lucy, my host, has made it so easy to settle in and is there for all the players who live with her if we need anything at all, it’s like living with another family that you are really close to.
“We can still have a laugh and relax like we normally would, and it means we don’t have issues to worry about so we can focus fully on our development.”
Heather and Billy Scott meanwhile have opened their family home to support the Clubs’ rising stars for the last 16 years, and currently host four of our first-year scholars.
They said: “We are huge Burnley fans and love being able to support the Club by looking after our young academy players.
“It’s a joy to be able to support them through the ups and downs of their journey, and to keep an eye on their progress as they begin their careers.”
One of the many players who have spent time alongside the Scott’s is U21s defender Dan Sassi, adding: “I absolutely loved my experience of living in digs with Heather and Billy.
“It gave me a taste of independence but at the same time kept the dynamic of a family environment between the house parents and us as players. They were so welcoming and made me and the other lads feel at home from day one.
“Having an environment like that away from the Club is a big help, and it’s really helped me to mature.”
The Club will be hosting an information evening for any prospective house families/parents at Turf Moor on Thursday 23rd February between 6pm–8pm.
