While recognising the quality that Nottingham Forest possess, Rhema Lord-Mears believes Burnley Women have shown that they are capable of ‘punishing’ the Reds.

The two teams are set to meet at the County Ground in Leyland on Sunday afternoon, and a win could prove to be crucial in terms of the league table come the end of the season.

Lord-Mears has been a regular in Rebecca Sawiuk’s side of late, starting five of the last six games in all competitions.

An attacking midfielder, she has an eye for a spectacular goal and managed one against Rugby Borough last weekend that put the Clarets 2-0 up.

After receiving the ball from an Emma Siddall throw-in, she turned and struck an effort that was too high for the visiting ‘keeper from the best part of 25 yards.

“It’s been one of our targets to start fast in games and we’re doing that at the moment,” Lord-Mears said.

“That’s where the majority of my goals come from, so it was just a case of getting the ball down on the floor, on to my left foot and shooting.”

The visit of Forest will be the third time we’ve come up against the Midlanders this season.

After a 1-1 draw in the league, the Clarets travelled to the City Ground in the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup in January.

Lord-Mears continued: “Both games against them have been a little bit frustrating.

“They’re obviously a good, organised squad but we have demonstrated where we can punish and beat them.

“It’s just a case of being clinical and switched on, and not letting them play how they want to.

“We’re just treating it as another game, but a win would reaffirm that confidence that we’re more than capable of getting to where we want to be.

“We’re all backing each other and doing as much as we can to perform at our best. If fans can put there support behind us too, it would make a big difference.”

Supporters are encouraged to get behind the team in person on the day, and Burnley men’s team season ticket holders can gain entry for free by showing their season ticket at the turnstiles.

The Lancashire FA County Ground in Leyland’s post code is PR25 2LF, and free parking is available on site on a first come first served basis.

Other adults are £5, while concessions are £2.
