26/09/2016 – Burnley 2 – 0 Watford (Turf Moor)

Burnley claimed their second Premier League win of the campaign, with goals either side of half-time from Jeff Hendrick and Michael Keane sealing all three points at Turf Moor.

The Clarets dominated the first-half and the pressure paid off when Hendrick headed home Steven Defour’s corner, before Michael Keane then glanced home another Defour cross.

The home side started brightly and it proved to be a sign of things to come, after Defour’s corner fell to George Boyd inside the area, with the midfielder seeing his fierce strike tipped over the crossbar.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson then tried his luck from range, as the Icelandic winger cut inside from the right and rifled an effort just wide of the target from 25-yards out.

However, with just over half-an-hour played, the Clarets had their breakthrough. Hendrick rose highest from another Defour corner to plant home a header into the bottom corner past Heurelho Gomes.

Following the break, the Hornets’ first real chance fell to Troy Deeney, as the striker saw his powerful effort from inside the box denied by the palms of Tom Heaton.

Despite Watford coming out on the front foot, Burnley doubled their lead when Keane nodded home Defour’s recycled corner, as the Belgian claimed his second assist of the night.

The visitors had another chance to pull a goal back, when Isaac Success broke down the left and into the area, before spraying the ball across the face of goal but no one was there to turn it home from two-yards out.

Sean Dyche’s side managed to keep out the Hornets and ensure another clean sheet at Turf Moor, as the home side took all three points in a deserved victory.
