25/01/2011 – Southampton 1 – 2 Burnley (St Mary's Stadium)

Matěj Vydra's fantastic second-half goal gave the Clarets all three points at St Mary's, after Danny Ings had cancelled out Ashley Westwood's early opener.

Burnley took the lead with just 93 seconds played, as Westwood's direct corner found the back of the net, before Ings fired home into the bottom corner midway through the first-half.

Substitute Vydra then delivered a stunning left-foot effort into the top corner from outside the area to give the Clarets the lead and secure a first league double over the Saints since 1947.

The Clarets started bright and won an early corner with a minute on the clock and from that corner, got the opening goal on a wet and windy afternoon on the coast.

Westwood lined up the set-piece and his curling effort towards the front post caught out Ings and goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, with the pair leaving it to bounce over the goal line, before Ben Mee hammered in the rebound to ensure the Clarets were ahead.

That lead lasted just over 15 minutes though, as the home side replied through former Claret Ings, who latched onto a loose ball outside the box and fired into the bottom corner past Nick Pope to draw level.

Southampton came close to taking the lead shortly after, when Jack Stephens latched onto Sofiane Boufal's cross into the area, but the defender's header crashed off the crossbar.

With half-time approaching, Vydra, who had replaced Chris Wood earlier in the half through injury, then saw a tame effort caught by the hands of McCarthy.

As both teams went into the break level, the home side came out on the front foot and came close when Ryan Bertrand rippled the side-netting from Moussa Djenepo's pass.

However, with the game reaching the hour mark, Burnley then took the lead when Hendrick lofted a ball towards Vydra on the edge of the area, with the Czech striker bringing it down on his chest, turning his man and smashing it into the top corner with a fabulous strike.

The Clarets did have the ball in the back of the net again moments later, after Hendrick picked out Jay Rodriguez to slot home, but the striker was in an offside position.

Although there was a late flurry of pressure from the hosts to claw a goal back, the visitors held on to secure all three points in Southampton.
