26/02/2011 – Preston North End 1 - 2 Burnley

Jack Cork's late winner at Deepdale saw the Clarets take all three points from Preston and complete the season double over their Lancashire rivals.

North End midfielder Barry Nicholson fired in the opener in the 23rd minute, but Burnley replied through Jay Rodriguez just 10 minutes later.

The Clarets' pressure then paid off with six minutes left on the clock, as Cork met Wade Elliott's cross to head home the winning goal in front of the 6,000 travelling fans.

Preston started bright and had an early chance through Billy Jones, but the defender's stinging effort flashed just wide of the target from 30-yards out.

The hosts threatened again a few minutes later when striker Nathan Ellington's goal-bound strike was blocked by Cork.

Burnley's first real opportunity came shortly after that, as Chris Eagles saw his driving effort from outside the area pushed wide by Iain Turner.

However, North End's opener came midway through the first-half, when Nicholson latched on to Paul Coutts pass and swept home from close range to give Phil Brown's side the lead.

After going a goal down, the Clarets responded in fine fashion after Rodriguez received Eagles' pass and picked out the back of the net with a clinical strike to draw the scores level.

With nothing to separate the two teams at the break, Burnley came out on the front foot in the second-half and Rodriguez was close to a second goal, but David Gray was there to block the striker's shot.

Preston were also pushing for a second and Coutts saw his strike denied by the legs of Clarke Carlisle, before Chris Eagles came incredibly close to putting Burnley ahead, but the winger could only fire just wide from inside the box.

However, with the clock ticking down and approaching the final whistle, the Clarets had their winning goal when Cork rushed into the area to connect onto Elliott's cross and head home past Turner in the 84th minute and seal the win.
