This season, we are asking fans to vote for the two charity partners the Club will support for the 2022/23 season.
In May this year, through a Clarets View survey on the topic of charity support, Clarets fans identified charities that work with children and young people and those that support mental health & wellbeing, as organisations they would like to see the Club partner with.
From this feedback, four charities have been selected, all of which work closely with Burnley FC in the Community, and we are encouraging fans to cast their vote.
The four chosen charities are:
JJs Effect
The JJ Effect are one of the country’s leading anti-knife crime and children’s safeguarding charities.
The organisation was set up by Byron Highton after his 18-year-old brother Jon-Jo (known as JJ) was stabbed to death in 2014 by a gang of men wielding knives, machetes and an axe.
The charity seeks to educate young people on carrying weapons and get as many blades off the street as possible, with Byron and the team wanting to ensure that no other family or community would ever have to ensure the sheer devastation knife crime causes and the ripple effects it generates in the community.
Andy’s Man Club
Andy’s Man Club are a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the United Kingdom and online.
The organisation wants to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation, delivering over 100 free support groups nationwide, running every Monday from 7pm.
The charity takes its name from Andrew Roberts, a man who sadly took his own life aged 23 in early 2016. Andy’s family had no inkling that he was suffering or struggling to the extent that he would do this, and as a result looked deeper into male suicide and men’s mental health. Through the charity Andy’s Mum, and Luke, Andy’s Brother-in-Law, aim to provide men with a safe space where they feel comfortable to talk and open up about their experiences in a room free of judgment.
Positive Action in the Community
Established in 1997 to meet the needs of the community, Positive Action in the Community are a local registered charity with the vision to have a community that gives the greatest opportunity for a safe, fulfilled and aspirational life, free from, homelessness, domestic abuse and poor mental health.
To achieve this, the organisation delivers a number of projects that include supported accommodation, community-based support, support in educational settings, counselling, and training, and personal development opportunities, working across Pendle, Burnley and Rossendale.
The organisation provides specialist support on an individual basis to empower people to build emotional resilience, improve their health and wellbeing, make positive choices, and to have fulfilled and independent lives.
Veterans’ Foundation
Funding hundreds of life-changing and life-saving projects, the Veterans’ Foundation is one of the country’s fastest-growing military charities, working with hundreds of smaller charities and charitable organisations across the UK to provide a better life for the Armed Forces family who are in need.
The charity provides mental health provision, including support for ex-service men and women who battle PTSD. The challenges of this can often impact family members so the Veterans’ Foundation pledge to offer support for the dependants of those who have served their country, while also funding initiatives for children whose parents sadly never made it home.
Each charity has produced a 60 second video on the work that they carry out and to explain why the support of Burnley FC will make a difference to their organisation. Keep an eye out on our Club social media channels to view the videos.
