Welcome to Turf Moor for this evening’s game against Watford. It’s my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to Roy Hodgson, the players, staff, directors, and supporters joining us today.
We were all delighted to welcome Netherlands international Wout Weghorst, who completed his move from VfL Wolfsburg on Monday. The centre forward has made 369 professional appearances at club level, has 160 goals to his name and is capped 12 times by his country, making him an exciting addition to the Clarets family.
Wout linked up with Sean and the squad earlier this week and it’s fantastic to have such a great talent with terrific goal-scoring pedigree in Germany onboard.
January is a notoriously difficult window and as a Club we did and in future windows, will continue to do everything we can to get the right players through the door. I have full belief and support in our squad and feel with the welcome addition of Wout, that there is an opportunity to build on what was a positive point at the Emirates last month.
Back to this evening and I’m thrilled to be at Turf Moor for what is set to be a special occasion as we recognise Ben Mee’s ten-year anniversary. To ensure as many fans as possible could be in attendance to celebrate the milestone, we implemented a £10 ticket offer for the game and we are expecting one of our biggest crowds of the season.
In addition to this, £2 from every £10 ticket purchased will be donated to Tommy’s, a charity close to Ben’s heart. Tommy’s helped Ben and his family when his daughter was born prematurely in June 2020 and continue to help thousands of people every day who have been affected by miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature birth.
Ben has been active in raising awareness for the invaluable work Tommy’s carry out and we’re delighted to support the charity through this initiative for today’s game.
The Club were also pleased to donate 1,000 tickets for the game to our official charity, Burnley FC in the Community. The charity has been distributing the tickets to local schools in return for a donation to ELHT&Me, the charity of East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. ELHT&Me fundraise to help enhance patient and staff environment and experience across five local hospitals - Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, Burnley General Teaching Hospitals, Accrington Victoria, Clitheroe, and Pendle Community Hospitals.
At Burnley FC, we’re proud to play our part in supporting such vital causes.
Your support at Turf Moor gives the team a real boost and we all know that an electric atmosphere can be the 12th man on the day. It is for this reason that we have decided to freeze our season ticket prices again, as we have for a number of years now. Good news, season tickets are now on sale, so you can secure your support for the Clarets next season.
Finally, it’s fantastic to be back at home tonight, for what is the first of three home games within eight days. As always, let’s get behind Sean and the team!
Up the Clarets!
Alan
