CHAIRMAN'S NOTES: MANCHESTER UNITED

2022-02-08T17:11:04.825Z

Welcome to Turf Moor for this evening’s game against Manchester United. It’s my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to Ralf Rangnick, the players, staff, directors, and supporters joining us today.

It’s great to be back at home this evening for the second time in four days, following our draw at home to Watford.

The weather conditions were tough, with relentless wind and rain throughout the day, but the atmosphere was fantastic, drawing the largest attendance of the season so far, and I want to say thank you to everyone for their support.

It was also a great recognition for Ben and offered the perfect opportunity for us all to celebrate his 10 years as a Claret together.

We now have another big night at Turf Moor, and we are honouring a special occasion in the history of Burnley Football Club. Tonight’s fixture will mark our 5000th professional league game, an incredible moment in our football journey. We are only the second Club to reach this milestone, after Preston North End, something which we are incredibly proud of as one of the founding members of the Football League.

Tonight, is also our rescheduled In Memoriam matchday. Originally due to take place at last month’s Leicester City fixture, a one-minute silence will be held before kick-off this evening to mark a moment of reflection, as we commemorate the loss of members of the Clarets family who sadly passed away in 2021.

We want to thank everybody who submitted names of loved ones ahead of the Leicester City game. The names will join the list of former players and staff and will be remembered at tonight’s fixture.

In exciting news for our young fans, we welcomed virtual mascots for the first time this season at the Watford game. Open to Junior Clarets members the virtual mascots, in addition to attending a game, feature in the matchday programme, receive a personal letter from a member of our first team squad and enjoy a special stadium announcement. Two lucky Junior Clarets are selected to be virtual mascots for each match, so make sure you sign up to become a member to be in with a chance of winning!

We have lots of exciting plans in the pipeline for our junior fans to continue to make Turf Moor a fun, friendly and enjoyable destination for families. All will be revealed soon.
