A warm welcome back to Turf Moor, for our first home game of the new season this afternoon against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Whilst we were able to host 3,500 of our season ticket holders at our final home fixture of last season, today marks the full return of fans to Premier League football and I’m looking forward to my first experience of a packed Turf Moor rocking!
Whilst there has been some well-deserved time off, it has been a busy summer for everyone at the club, especially those players who have been representing their countries at international level.
It was great to see Matěj Vydra playing for the Czech Republic at UEFA Euro 2020, whilst we’ve also welcomed back an Olympian to our ranks, with Chris Wood proudly captaining New Zealand to the quarter finals of the Olympic Football Tournament in Tokyo.
Having retained the backbone of our talented first team squad, we’ve also welcomed some new faces to the club during the summer.
I was delighted that we have been able to attract one of the most promising young defenders in the country in Nathan Collins, whilst the addition of Wayne Hennessey adds another experienced international goalkeeper to our squad. With two weeks remaining of the window, we will continue to try and be active in the market and bolster the squad.
On the training pitch the team have prepared well for the new season, with six wins from seven friendly matches and a tough test against LaLiga side Cadiz here last Saturday.
Off the field, we have been busy preparing for the new season with significant improvements made to the stadium and hospitality facilities, as part of our vision to enhance the spectator experience at Turf Moor and make the stadium more digitally connected.
This work has included the installation of new state-of-the-art LED big screen technology inside the ground, which I hope will enhance your viewing experience of today’s game.
The club’s commercial team has also worked incredibly hard to welcome a raft of new partners for the coming season, and I’d like to thank them for their support of the club.
A warm welcome to our new principal partner Spreadex, sleeve sponsor Astropay and stand sponsor Utilita, whilst we’re also delighted to be extending our long-standing partnership with Barnfield Construction.
In July, we were also delighted to announce a ground-breaking partnership with TikTok that sees the social media platform become the sleeve partner of our women’s team – who will become the first football team in the UK to live stream their matches on TikTok.
Innovation is a key component to our plans at Burnley and this partnership with a fantastic, progressive brand like TikTok completely fits into our vision for the club’s future and embracing digital audiences.
The launch of AiSCOUT has been another opportunity to introduce new technology to the football club and this week the club welcomed 15 young players identified through our global talent search to the training ground for a trials game watched by Burnley scouts and coaches.
I look forward to following the players’ progress and seeing if we have successfully identified any future stars for the academy.
I hope you enjoy today’s game and cheer on the players as they look to get our campaign off to a flying start.
Up The Clarets!
