Burnley travel to Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday evening, commencing our Carabao Cup campaign with a Round Two clash against the Salopians in a 19:30 kick-off.
This marks a first cup game in charge of the side for Vincent Kompany, who so far has seen his side take six points from their five Sky Bet Championship matches.
The latest came from a 3-3 draw with Blackpool at Turf Moor on Saturday, with Nathan Tella netting a brace on his full debut for the Club.
Where to Watch?
Tickets are still available to buy in person at the Burnley FC ticket office for the trip to Shropshire, and will remain on sale until midday on the day of the game.
Due to the EFL’s guidelines we are unable to live stream the cup tie, however our pre-match show can be found on YouTube at 18:50. Live audio commentary will also be available from 15 minutes before kick-off – 19:15 – with Phil Bird and special guest Stephen Ward. Now in their seventh consecutive Sky Bet League One season, the Salopians have started the campaign with a mixed bag of results.
The Shrews sit 18th under former Burnley boss Steve Cotterill with five points from five games, but were defeated 3-0 at home by Ipswich Town last weekend. Their one league victory so far this term came away against Wycombe Wanderers.
To reach Round Two of the Carabao Cup, Cotterill’s side had to overcome a scare from Sky Bet League Two outfit Carlisle United. Trailing 1-0, Luke Leahy and Daniel Udoh struck to turn the game around before an equaliser from Carlisle came on 81 minutes.
Five minutes later though, Chey Dunkley netted the winner to avoid the lottery of a penalty shootout.
The Last Time We Met
It’ll be a second visit to Montgomery Waters Meadow in a little over a month for Kompany and his side.
The Clarets won 3-1 in a pre-season friendly at the same venue on July 15 with Samuel Bastien, Ne-Jai Tucker, and Bobby Thomas on the scoresheet that evening.
Competitively, this will be just a 15th meeting between the pair, and a first since April 1997 when Burnley lost out 2-1 in the old Division Two with Paul Barnes our goalscorer. Shrewsbury would go on to be relegated come the end of that campaign.
