The Clarets beat Stockport County in a training-ground friendly with goals from Lewis Richardson, Owen Dodgson and Nathan Collins as a number of senior players were given valuable game-time.
Collins was one of four senior players who got the chance to join the U23s and top up their fitness ahead of the weekend Premier League opener against Brighton.
Matthew Lowton also featured, along with Matej Vydra and goalkeeper Will Norris, after missing last Saturday’s warm-up loss to Cadiz due to Covid-19 isolation.
The outfield trio all completed 90 minutes, along with Aaron Lennon who continues to train with the Clarets while he is without a club.
Richardson got the opener after 12 minutes with a classy finish after Vydra’s effort had been blocked by the visitors’ defence.
However, the lead lasted only eight minutes. County equalised with an unfortunate Lowton own- goal. Tom Walker’s teasing cross from the right wing went in off the Clarets’ right back.
Burnley led again just after the half-hour mark with the pick of the goals. Dodgson superbly volleyed home left-footed off the post from a fine Lowton cross.
Dodgson was also involved in Burnley’s third just before the hour mark.
Vydra won a free-kick close to the County goal and the former Manchester United youngster found an unmarked Collins to powerfully head home. It was the central defender’s first goal in Burnley colours.
Burnley were dominant in the second half and Vydra nearly got the goal his endeavours deserved but County keeper Ben Hinchliffe saved well after a superb cut back from Anthony Gomez Mancini.
Burnley: Norris (Waller 78): Lowton, Collins, Thomas, Glennon: Lennon, Helm (Tucker 60), Gomez Mancini, Dodgson: Richardson, Vydra.
