Manchester United show class to end Clarets' Cup run

Burnley Ladies bowed out of the FA Cup as Manchester United hit them for six.

The Clarets felt the full power of the Women’s Super League side in their fourth-round tie at Leyland.

Following a bright start by Matt Bee’s side, Millie Turner opened the scoring for United in the ninth minute to stop the Clarets in their tracks.

That set the tone, and despite Burnley Chairman Alan Pace being in attendance to offer his support to the ladies, Ella Toone, the visitors’ top scorer this season, soon saw her powerful shot from distance arrow into the roof of the net to double the advantage.

Having played just 15 minutes, it became apparent it was going to be a difficult afternoon for the Clarets, and before the break, United had put the tie beyond doubt with two more strikes from Lucy Staniforth and Amy Turner.

With a mountain to climb in the second half, the opening minutes quickly brought another goal for the visitors as Kirsty Hanson slotted wide of Lauren Bracewell in the Burnley goal to make it 0-5.

And the scoreline was complete when Hanson was on hand to bag her second; heading home the rebound after a ball from Sigsworth hit the Burnley crossbar with Bracewell beaten.
