We are organising a number of activities to support World Autism Acceptance Week (28th March – 3rd April) and raise vital funds for the National Autistic Society.
This includes the first-team warming up for Saturday’s game against Manchester City at Turf Moor in the charity’s t-shirts and the Club’s Esports team holding a 60-hour marathon streaming challenge on Twitch.
In addition, the match shirts worn by the Clarets in the Premier League game against Manchester City are to be auctioned off, with the full proceeds being donated to the charity.
We hope this will help increase public understanding of autism and raise funds to support the National Autistic Society’s work, creating a society that works for autistic people and their families.
For this year’s World Autism Acceptance Week, the National Autistic Society is encouraging everyone to find out more about autism, whether through organising assemblies in school, taking part in events or talking to friends and family.
Autism is a lifelong disability and there are around 700,000 autistic people in the UK.
Burnley FC’s Head of Football and Chief Operating Officer, Matt Williams, said: “We’re delighted to once again be supporting World Autism Acceptance Week and the National Autistic Society.
“Far too many autistic people and their families don’t get the understanding or support they need and end up feeling isolated. This is why World Autism Acceptance Week is so important. It’s an opportunity to get people talking and finding out more about autism - and making sure autistic people and their families feel part of the community.”

Caroline Stevens, Chief Executive of the National Autistic Society, said: “Thank you to everyone at Burnley Football Club, including all the fans, for supporting our charity during World Autism Acceptance Week.
“Not enough people understand what it’s actually like to be autistic: both the different perspectives, passions and skills autistic people can have and how hard life can be if you don’t have the right support.
“World Autism Acceptance Week is a great platform to get people talking about autism - and hopefully finding out what life can be like for the 700,000 autistic people in the UK, and their families.
“Anyone can get involved by visiting autism.org.uk/WAAW, where we’ve got information and free resources, like lesson plans for schools, quizzes, and posters for the workplace.
“Better understanding of autism could transform the lives of hundreds of thousands of autistic people.”
