Josh Brownhill has lauded Burnley’s start to the 2024/25 Sky Bet Championship season as the team look ahead to Saturday’s game away at Sunderland.
The Clarets travel to the Stadium of Light following a 4-1 win at Luton Town and a 5-0 triumph over Cardiff City, with Brownhill bagging a goal in each game.
“As starts go, it’s probably the perfect start, for me personally as well. To get two wins out of two against two difficult teams is good.”
The midfielder is particularly pleased with the mood of the squad, with Head Coach Scott Parker having a positive effect in the opening weeks of the campaign.
“He’s a very good man manager, he’s really good at motivating this team and, so far, it’s gone perfectly for him.
“There’s probably no better manager to come in, who’s already got two promotions under his belt. He knows what the league’s about.
“It’s a breath of fresh air and a fresh start. Everyone’s so excited to play the games that are coming up.”
The potential of the group is also something that excites the 28-year-old, with many of them now carrying Premier League experience as well.
“Within the ones that have stayed, there’s a lot of maturity in this team. They’ve got that readiness from the Premier League.
“With Luca (Koleosho) - he got injured - it was a really bad time for us, being out for so long. Then you’ve got Lyle (Foster) with the bags of potential and ability that he’s got.
“Zeki Amdouni, Maxime Esteve, Dara O’Shea - there’s so many in this team that have got so much ability and potential. Hopefully, they can stand out in this league.”
The weekend presents an early challenge for the Clarets as they travel to the North East to take on a Sunderland side who have also won their first two Championship games.
Both Burnley and the Black Cats have been tipped to be vying for promotion come the end of the season, and Brownhill is adamant that he and his teammates share that sentiment.
“Our aim this year is to get promoted, that’s where you want to be, where the best games are, against the best opposition.
“The Premier League has never been stronger than what it is, the gap is really big from the Championship and it’s about shortening that gap and hoping that, if we go up this year, we can do a lot better than last time.
“Everybody pictures the Premier League with Burnley in it.”
