Josh Brownhill spoke of his happiness at Burnley's continued Championship winning streak, following the Clarets 3-0 victory over Preston North End on Saturday.
Crediting everybody involved for the magnificent run of form, the midfielder felt the home side were fully deserving of the three points and clean sheet on the day.
“I thought overall it was an amazing performance. It was always going to be tough after playing away at their place, they were difficult to break down and they gave us a really good game. However, I thought today we were really on it, and we deserved the three points. Three goals, clean sheet, what more can you ask for.”
Nathan Tella, who bagged a hat-trick, opened the scoring on the 14th minute, heading home from a Brownhill cross, helping the team set the scene early.
“I thought it [the first goal] came at the perfect time for us, obviously when it’s 0-0 it can go either way and even still at 1-0 - but when you get that goal it builds a little bit of confidence and you could see that out there.”
When asked to give an insight on Tella and his experience of him both on the training pitch and in games, Brownhill added: “He’s exactly like you see outside. One minute he’s standing still with the ball and then he’s turning and getting past people and finishing. For him I think he’ll be disappointed he didn’t get four or five or six because he had a few chances and he was a threat all game. When you’ve got that turn of pace, skill and quality like he has, give him half a chance and he’ll take it. Today I thought he was excellent and fully deserved.”
The win saw Burnley rack up their twelfth clean sheet of the campaign so far, an aspect of the squad's game the midfielder places huge significance on.
Clarets take on the Terriers at Turf Moor
“It’s very important. We set ourselves out at the beginning of the season to keep clean sheets and it took us a while, we were conceding goals late on and you know, even though we weren’t giving away many chances there was that sort of, little bit of unluckiness and a bit of luck on their side and it was going in.
“Throughout the season you’re always going to learn, I feel like we’ve done that all season. Like I say, fully deserved again for the clean sheet, I thought we defended excellently. We didn’t give them too many clear cut chances so yeah it was all good.”
The victory was the Clarets tenth win in a row and for Brownhill the achievement is testament to the hard work and efforts of everybody involved.
“I’m very proud [that the team have won 10 in a row]. I’ve been in this division for a long time when I was at Bristol City, and I know how hard it is to even get a few wins on the bounce. It sort of shows the relentlessness for us, the boys put in such hard work and everyone around us to put out a performance and get three points. Throughout all these ten wins in a row, it’s been magnificent from everybody involved, so everybody should be proud of themselves.”
