Josh Brownhill expressed his pride at Burnley's performance against Sheffield United on Saturday, with five goals and a clean sheet bringing a smile to the Clarets Captain's face.
Adding his name to the scoresheet in the 80th minute, the midfielder described his happiness at the performance and to see several of his teammates net their first goals for the Club.
“Amazing. You know it’s been a long time coming, the performances have been really good, but we haven’t got the results, and today was everything in one. Performance, result, clean sheet, five goals - it doesn’t get much better.”
When asked if he felt that the recent performances had been building up to the win and the securing of three points, he added: “Yeah absolutely. We knew that with the quality that we’ve got that we were going to hit somebody soon with a lot of goals and we did that today. We started off really well even before they went down to ten men, I thought we were absolutely outstanding, we had two goals, and it could have been more carrying on. So, like I say overall it was brilliant.”
Jay Rodriguez put Burnley ahead just 15 seconds into the game and it was the reaction to go on the hunt for more goals to increase the lead that Brownhill was also impressed with.

“Yes, so that doesn’t get any better but sometimes you can score too early, I know that sounds sort of crazy, sometimes you get a goal, and you can take your foot off the gas and sit back and invite a lot of pressure, but we didn’t do that. We got the second and then we carried on and we went into half-time and the same thing coming out, we were like no we don’t want to stop here we want to get more goals and show how good of a team we are, and I thought we did that.”
A nice hit from Brownhill added the Clarets fifth and wrapped up the scoring for the home side.
“Yeah, I was waiting for it to be set on the edge of the box all game really because they were sort of sitting off and you know that one set really nice for me and I hit it and like I say before you know it, it was in the back of the net and it felt good.”
The dominant performance also saw some more Burnley Football Club history made, as it was the first time ever that Burnley had scored five goals in the Premier League and the first time in the top-flight since 1970.
“Well, I didn’t know that, so that’s a good stat to know and I’m glad to be a part of that one!”
As well as the goals it was a strong performance defensively, an aspect the midfielder was also proud of.

“I think it’s massive, especially for the back four and Traff in net. I feel like that’s been a long time coming and it will build a lot of confidence. It’s been something that they’ve obviously worked hard on this season, and I know it doesn’t look like that, we’ve conceded quite a lot of goals. But we know the quality that we’ve got and Traff’s a young and really good keeper and the back four are very, very good and today it’s shown how good they are, and they got a clean sheet.”
A positive performance brought happiness to Vincent Kompany's men and Brownhill found the occasion extra special as Captain, leading out the team.
“Yes, obviously it’s always special to have the captain’s armband for Burnley Football Club and you know every time I go out onto the pitch, I give 100%.
“So, it’s leading the team out any game but especially today it’s really good and to see the likes of Luca scoring, even Jacob scoring as well, Zeki, it’s really good to see them. But yeah like I say especially for Luca, he’s been working so hard for his first goal, and he’s had a lot of chances and he’s sort of missed a few and he hit the bar I think it was and he just thought it’s not falling for him and yeah, I’m so delighted that he got his goal.
"Like I say you could see when it went into the back of the net he sort of, the rush that went through him, I thought he was going to start a fight with the corner flag, he wacked it! But yeah, I’m so happy for him.”
