Jay Bradford has praised Clarets fans for the backing that they’ve given to the women’s team this season, and wants that level of support to continue as the end of the campaign approaches.
Former Coventry United boss Bradford initially joined Burnley a few months into the season as an assistant coach, but stepped up to take formal charge in February. A successful few months has followed, including a Lancashire FA Women’s Senior Cup lift.
Wolves are the opponents this Sunday at the Anchor Ground, Darwen in a game that could see the Clarets head top of the league heading into next weekend’s first-ever game at Turf Moor against Liverpool Feds.
Bradford said: “Everyone involved at the club knows what’s at stake both this weekend and next, and they’re both occasions that we’re looking forward to, but it’s the fans that are going make them so special.
“We’ve already seen a huge amount of support for the team this season, probably more than ever before, and we just want that to carry on now into these final two games.
“The girls all speak regularly about how much it drives them on in games hearing fans shouting their names and celebrating when they score, and as a manager that’s everything that you want to hear.
“We’re playing some good stuff now, and trying to create an identity, so growing our fanbase is a part of that.”

Before that though, there’s the visit of Wolves to Darwen this weekend with a 2pm KO (BST).
The Wanderers sit 3rd in the league, a point behind Burnley, and three behind leaders Nottingham Forest. The team that wins the league still isn’t guaranteed promotion, though only they are in with a chance as they’ll progress into a promotion play-off final against the winners of the FA Women’s National League South.
“We knew from the beginning of this season that Wolves were going to be one of the biggest threats to what we wanted to achieve here.
“With two games left, we sit here and although it’s an outside chance that they’ve got because of the goal difference, that remains the same. They’re a good side, and a good club, that’s the reason they won this league last year.
Claret Women’s chief proud to be leading side to Turf Moor for the first time
“That said, we know they’ll bring fans with them down to Darwen on Sunday, and that only re-enforces the fact that we want as many of our fans there as possible.
“It’s set up to be a massive game with a good attendance in the third tier of women’s football. Whatever happens on the pitch, that’s a good achievement off it and can only benefit the game on the whole. It’s a game we’re proud to be a part of.”
Entry on Sunday at the Anchor Ground (BB3 0BB) is completely FREE of charge.
