Jay Bradford led her side to a 2-1 victory over Liverpool Feds in their final game of the season, which was also their Turf Moor debut.
Evie Priestley and Courtney Willis netted for the Claret Women, in a tight game that hosted 2,967 fans as they secured a victory to complete their 2022/23 campaign.
And after her sides victorious home ground berth, Bradford alluded to the positive affect that the home fans had on Burnley in pushing them to a season-closing three points.
“It was an unbelievable day where the fans were incredible and they helped the players to have a great time out there,” said Bradford.
“They played with smiles, which doesn’t always happen, especially when we knew we had to win today to keep any hope alive of winning the league.
“To see people enjoying themselves and after the game to see the fans stay behind, made it an incredible occasion and one that we will never forget.
“Today sets us up for the bigger moments, for example when you go away to someone like [Nottingham] Forest and it’s a little bit hostile, these moments today make those occasions a little bit easier.”
The Clarets went behind early in the game, with ex-Claret Katie Thomas giving the visitors the lead after only six minutes.
But despite this Bradford believed in her players resilience, and in praising the away side for the way they set up, she was also happy with the way her players reacted to going behind.
“To be fair to [Liverpool] Feds they set up well and were the better team for 25 minutes at the start of the game,” Bradford added.
“We didn’t really get hold of the game or the ball, and we were giving it away in pockets we usually do well in, so that was a bit disappointing.
“At half time we spoke about what we needed to do and how we could hurt them with the ball and second half we were completely dominant.
“I felt all in all we set up well and dealt with everything they threw at us.”
Today’s game meant the end of the season for the Claret Women, as they finished third in the table behind Wolverhampton Wanderers and winners Nottingham Forest.
And as Bradford admitted a break would now do her side good as she reflected on this campaign, the Interim Head Coach also added that she thought the team were ready for a title run once more next season.
“We’ve shown our character this year and our resilience in games as we could have let our heads drop today when we went one down and as I said, these moments we need to lean on next year for when the bigger moments come,” Bradford stated.
“I think we definitely need a break but for me it’s more of just building on what we’ve been doing, we’ve played some incredible football in the second half of the season so, for me, we should keep building on our identity.
“As a group we’re well prepared for next season and we’ll have a good break over the off season and come back in pre-season with our aim to go and win the league.”
