Burnley FC Women are delighted to confirm the signing of England youth international Meg Boydell, who links up with Jonathan Morgan’s side ahead of the second half of the 2022/23 campaign.
Representing the Young Lionesses at U17-level, Boydell can play in midfield as well as the backline, and previously joined the Claret Women on a dual registration from Blackburn Rovers Ladies back in November 2021.
An unused substitute in a Vitality Women’s FA Cup success over AFC Fylde Women, she would get injured shortly after and return to her parent Club without being able to make her debut for the Clarets.
Boydell had spent 12 years coming through the academy ranks at Liverpool prior to her time with Blackburn.
While with the Reds, playing alongside Courtney Willis & Emma Taylor who she now joins at Burnley, the midfielder won the double in 2018/19, picking up winners’ medals from both the FAWSL Plate and Reserve League.
Having trained with the Claret Women over the last few weeks, and appeared in a behind closed doors friendly over the festive break in competitive fixtures, she now officially joins the Club.
Boydell said: “I’m excited to have a fresh start after my injury and to be joining a great squad here at Burnley.
“All the staff and players have been really welcoming, and I have really enjoyed my first few weeks of training.
“I now just can’t wait to compete on the pitch, and get the second half of this season underway.”
Meanwhile, boss Morgan added: “Meg is going to be a fantastic addition to the squad, we have seen already in the few weeks she’s been in with us how good she is.
“She is technically very gifted and will add a lot to our attack, picking up the ball in tight spaces and breaking lines whether that be with er passing ability or driving past opponents.
“On a personal level, I am looking forward to working with her and seeing how she can improve the team.”
Boydell is eligible for – and could be involved in – this afternoon’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup Third Round tie against Norwich City Women at the County Ground, Leyland (4pm KO).
