Winger previews Adobe Women’s FA Cup tie

Reanna Blades reminisces fondly on the last time she and her Burnley Women team-mates played Nottingham Forest.

The Clarets visited the City Ground for the first time in their history back in September, in what was their fifth Northern Premier Division of the Women’s National League game of the season.

Blades was named as a substitute by head coach Rebecca Sawiuk and watched on from the dugout as Mel Johnson gave the Reds a 31st minute lead with a calm finish into the bottom right corner.

The winger, who moved to Lancashire following the expiration of her Chelsea contract in the summer, came off the bench after 66 minutes and would go on to have a major impact.

Having been played through by Brenna McPartlan’s reverse pass, the 20-year-old picked out the same corner that Johnson had found to spark jubilant scenes with 10 minutes to play.

“The goal was a really surreal moment for me,” she said.

“It’s not always easy trying to come off the bench, keep up with the play and execute the game plan, but I think I did that.

“It was half a knee slide to celebrate! We were all really happy because we fought until the very end and there’s always going to be a bit of a rivalry between us and Forest.

“It would be great to take that into the cup so we can get some momentum going into 2025.”

The two teams lock horns in the third round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, with both sides scoring double figures against lower league opposition in round two last weekend.

“It was a really good game against Bradford,” Blades continued.

“We played well as a team and to get so many players on the scoresheet shows that.”

Blades was one of those who found the back of the net, scoring from close range to make it 8-0 in first-half stoppage time.

That was her fourth goal of the campaign and she’d love to add to that tally against the Reds, whose league standing ranks them as one of the best teams in tier three.

The fact that it’s in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup would make it extra sweet, because it’s a competition that Blades recorded a major milestone in.

“I made my senior Chelsea debut in the quarter finals of the FA Cup against Reading in March 2023, which was a really good experience and a really proud moment for me,” she finished.

This weekend’s game is being played at Grange Park, the home of Long Eaton FC (NG10 2EF). Kick-off is 2pm.

Cheer on the Clarets at Turf Moor

Burnley Women's FA Women’s National League Cup quarter final against Stoke City will be played at Turf Moor on Saturday 14th December, kick-off 1pm.

Season ticket holders can claim a free ticket for the match and are advised to do this in advance of the day.

Non season ticket holders can purchase tickets at £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.
