Jordan Beyer has only been at Burnley since September, but the German defender already knows exactly how important Turf Moor and the fans are to him and the team.
“Playing in front of our fans at Turf Moor is such a special feeling. When we’re at home I’m always always delighted. I always look forward to it and the fans always have our back.
“When it’s a weekend at Turf Moor, they make it feel like it’s a fortress. When teams come to us, our fortress, it’s made really tough for them. The fans play a huge part in that.”
Our last match, at Blackpool, was Beyer’s 25th start in a Burnley shirt, the 13th clean sheet in matches he’s played in and The Clarets’ 16th shutout of the season.
“It’s positive to get a clean sheet and not lose the game.
“Blackpool was a tough game for sure. It’s a point more to our name so we can’t complain about it too much, but we wanted to win. You look at the table and see they’re in the bottom three and you should normally beat them, but it was a tough place to go.
“We have now ticked it away and we focus on the next game, take the point and move on.”
This weekend’s visitors, Wigan Athletic, also currently sit bottom of the Championship and, like at Blackpool, Beyer knows taking on a team at the bottom doesn’t mean an easy game ahead.
“Wigan Athletic are fighting to stay in the Championship at the moment too. So, we know it’s gonna be really tough. They’ll throw everything they have to try and beat us. But it’s a home game for us and with the fans behind us, pushing us all the way, we will do everything we can to win the game.”
With at least twelve more games to go this season Jordan is very clear he’s not thinking any further forward than this afternoon’s visit of The Latics.
“We just look from game to game. We’ve talked about that. We can’t get onto an emotional rollercoaster and think about games too much.
“Whether they are really good or really bad. We just have to put it away, put it aside, and just focus on the next game.
“Whatever has happened in the past we can’t do anything about. We just continue to focus on that next game and do better. That’s what we do and all we care about.”
