Matt Bee has told his players that Sunday’s FA Cup clash with Manchester United should whet the appetite for the challenges that lay ahead.
The Clarets, who operate in the third tier of the Women’s pyramid, face a Super League side for the first time in Sunday’s fourth round tie at Leyland.
And having achieved back-to-back promotions at the start of the club’s journey, Bee wants the tie to provide inspiration to drive the team forward.

“I’m proud of the journey we’ve been on in such a short pace of time.
“I always want more, and I know it will take time, but we are going to get a taste of it this weekend, and the target is to go and enjoy the experience and look to apply ourselves in the best way possible, on and off the pitch.
“One of the things I said to the group when I walked through the door is that we should set the highest standards for a female football club in the region.
“Obviously, resource wise at the time I said that, it wasn’t realistic because we are in a catchment area with the Super League and then WSL2 clubs, now Championship clubs.
“But over time the resource gap has closed and the announcement in recent weeks has brought it closer than we’ve ever had it before.

“Now it’s just about making sure we apply ourselves on and off the pitch on Sunday and lay a good marker down.
“We are buzzing for the challenge, and the Manchester United squad is built on millions of pounds, so it’s about us being realistic that it’s a huge challenge, but let’s go and enjoy it and make sure, over the coming years, that these are regular occasions.
“It’s certainly not enough for it to be a one off, with where we want to go.”
Burnley have overcome divisional rivals Fylde and Sunderland to reach the fourth round for the season successive season.

Sunday’s game offers them the chance to showcase their talents in the first women’s game ever streamed live by the club (on Clarets+).
And Bee is confident the experience will be something that everyone can take to drive forwards when the regular women’s leagues resume next season.
“Whatever the result on Sunday, I’ll learn more from that 90 minutes about myself as a manager,” added Bee.
“The players will also probably learn more about themselves than five or six games that we’ve combined.
“These are the challenges that you want, and it’s exciting to go up against the best.”
Sunday’s tie can be viewed on Clarets+, for just £1. Register now to cheer on the women.
