Joe Bauress has been named in the England U18 squad for the Young Lions’ trip to Portugal later this month, where over a week-long camp they will play three friendly matches.
The midfielder, 17, has been in the academy setup with the Clarets since the age of eight and was a permanent figure in the U21s setup at club level in the 2022/23 season.
Recently putting pen to paper on his first professional deal, Bauress also made a senior bow last season against Crawley Town in the Carabao Cup at Turf Moor. Still 16 then, he became the youngest player to appear for the Club this century.
And having already appeared at international level for England as an U15, the Liverpool-born teenager will now be in contention for the U18s against Norway (9th June, 11am KO), Australia (11th June, 11am KO) & Portugal (13th June, 5pm KO). All three fixtures take place in Lisbon.
Bauress said: “It’s a great honour for me and my family to be selected to represent my country again, especially in the U18s age group.
“Over the next 18 months or so, while I’m still eligible at this age, I’ll be working hard to add to the caps that I’ve already got.
“This camp will be the start of next season for me if you like, so it’s important I go in there and hit the ground running, I think the call-up is testament to the work that’s gone in by everyone at Burnley with me too.”
