Midfielder ready for new chapter in England

Samuel Bastien became Burnley's and Vincent Kompany's fifth signing on Tuesday, after joining from Standard Liege.

In the central-midfielder's first interview he discussed the role Kompany played in the move, the impressive training ground facilities and his excitement to meet the fans and play at Turf Moor.

Bastien on joining the Clarets:

"I am very happy to be here, It's a new step for me and I hope I'll try to give everything to get the Club back in the Premier League.

"I am also looking forward to learning, because it's also a new league for me. The most important thing is to give everything i possibly can on the field every match."

Bastien on how the move came about:

"It's been a little over a month. The manager called me saying he was coming here to Burnley, that he was interested in me and when someone like Vincent Kompany calls you, It is sure that you will not hesitate twice.

"Then there you go, I let my agents work with the Club. Today I am very happy to be here."

Bastien on the role Vincent Kompany played:

"He played a very big role. When I was in Belgium, he was a coach in Anderlecht and he is also someone in England, also very well-known and throughout the world.

"Then when a coach like that calls you, of course you can only accept his offer.

Bastien on the 'new chapter':

"It is sure that for me, it will be a new life. I have never played in England. It's a new championship for me.

"We know very well that England is the country of football and that's also what I wanted to discover.

"So here it is, for sure now I'm going to do everything I can to be as efficient as possible."

Bastien on what type of midfielder he is:

"A midfielder who runs a lot, who works a lot for the team, who helps the team and that's it. I am quite offensive too.

"I'll try to do everything I can to help the team win every match."

Bastien on the Clarets' training ground:

"Frankly, that impresses me. As soon as I came here, I was like a little child because I've never seen a centre like this.

"The quality of the pitches, the quality of the centre, the locker rooms, etc. There is everything to progress and do well here and I think that we must use that to our advantage because I don’t think all clubs have good centres like that."

Bastien on being ready to join in pre-season:

"I'm ready, I'm ready. I think I also prepared well during the holidays because I knew very well that if I signed here, the English league has a lot of matches and i had to be ready for it.

"Because I know there are a lot of matches and I'm ready to go train, play and to help the club."

Bastien on meeting the fans and seeing Turf Moor:

"I am very impatient to discover the stadium, to discover the fans.

"I was also told that there was a good atmosphere, that the stadium was good. I'm looking forward to it."
