Clarets' number 10 Ashley Barnes, one of the longest standing members of the squad, has been looking ahead to a busy week as Burnley get set to host Hull City and Blackpool.
The forward has been adapting to the new style of play brought about by Manager Vincent Kompany and believes the squad has what it takes to start finishing the opportunities in front of goal.
Barnes on the Watford result:
“The last two games, not including Huddersfield have been the same. We were better in the second half. I thought on Friday in the first half we were getting in each other’s way. It’s a learning curve though, it takes a while to gel, we have a number of new players so hopefully we can pick that up.
“We have lots of meetings, we know how the Gaffer wants us to play and hopefully we can pick that up quick.
“The formation is going well, it’s something new but it shows we can adapt to all formations. I’m finding a new role and it’s about knowing your role properly and what I need to do.”
Barnes on the prospect of back-to-back home games:
"We're in front of the home fans again and hopefully we can give them a few wins. We take one game at a time; it’s a long season and the Championship is a mad league; anyone can beat anyone. We want to concentrate on ourselves and hopefully start a run going."
Barnes on his goal scoring form:
“The goals will come, as long as you’re in the right places, when I’m not in the right places that’s when I’ll question myself. Knowing each other, these things will click, and we’ll pick up a run of good results.
“I’m a lone striker, I have to adapt, that’s what we do as footballers, adapt to different scenarios.
“Everybody has to contribute. I need to hold the ball, bring other players in. As a striker I want to score, I want to finish as the league’s top goal scorer. Every striker in the league wants that. We all need to do our jobs, as long as the team wins that’s the main thing.
“We are working hard in training, working on movement patterns, it will come. First and foremost, we need to do the basics right. We have to take it one game at a time, but I do put a lot of pressure on myself to score the goals and fire us back up to the Premier League.”
Barnes on Vincent Kompany:
“He’s been telling me to just do the basics right, bring others into play, occupy the centre backs and then go and get the goals. If I do that then I’m doing my job.
“I respect him on every level, it’s a pleasure to work with him. You come out of meetings baffled! His knowledge, he’s brilliant, an amazing person who has had an amazing career. He has given us a new way to play, a different style."
Barnes on his spell out injured last season:
“Obviously I was frustrated by the injuries. Hopefully I can have an injury free season.
“I do think it’s meant the hunger is there for me even more so though. I missed out on not being able to help us stay up last season, so the hunger is there to bring us back up and go again.”
