Club celebrate Premier League's No Room For Racism campaign

No Room For Racism is a Premier League initiative that tackles discrimination and promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion across football and society. The campaign sends a clear message: racism has no place in football or anywhere else.

As part of this month’s No Room For Racism activity, Ashley Barnes and Bashir Humphreys paid a special visit to Whittlefield Primary School in Padiham, one of Burnley FC in the Community’s partner schools, to take part in a powerful No Room For Racism assembly.

The event focused on promoting diversity, inclusion, and the importance of kindness - values at the heart of both the club and the community.

The children had written heartfelt poems around the theme “Greatness Comes from Everywhere,” and Barnes and Humphreys had the honour of presenting certificates and prizes to some of the standout entries. Their involvement added an extra layer of excitement to the celebration of creativity and inclusivity.

After the assembly, the energy ramped up with a lively competition named ‘Ash vs Bash.’ The school hall was split into two cheering sides as the players led their teams through a series of fun challenges, from Pictionary and paper airplane contests to cornhole games.

In the end, Bashir’s team emerged victorious with a 3–1 win, but the real success was the joy and engagement shared by all the children.

Lianne Bradford, Education Manager at Burnley FC in the Community, reflected on the day: “The impact that players have when they visit schools like this is indescribable. The children were absolutely thrilled, and Ashley and Bashir took real time to connect with them, it truly made their day. These visits are especially meaningful when we’re addressing important topics like No Room For Racism. Having the players’ support reinforces the messages we’re teaching and helps them resonate deeply with the children.”

Bashir Humphreys added: “We were both talking and we said we don’t know how the children had written such good poems. If we were told to write a poem, we couldn’t write one as good as that. It was unbelievable.

“No Room For Racism is such an important topic to talk about, and it just goes to show, in their poems, the things that they were saying they understand it already and I feel that’s important – that it’s being built into them at a young age.”
