Jaidon Anthony said he was feeling very happy following the Clarets 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.
The winger gave the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into the break before skipper Josh Brownhill netted a second in the 50th minute.
Talking post-match, Anthony said: “I'm feeling very happy. That’s what we wanted to do [get the three points]; we knew that they’d have their moments but we’re really happy.”
The 24-year-old leapt on a defensive error from the home side, calmly slotting past the Owls keeper to net his first goal for Burnley.
“The manager always says to be composed in those moments, that’s what I did, I knew I had a bit of time with the mistake. I just took my touch, picked my spot and luckily it went in!”
And on his emotional celebration he added: “Yes, I felt like this goal had been coming. I had a tough year, so this goal meant a lot to me. Hopefully, I get a lot more now.”
Sheffield Wednesday did have chances throughout and started the second half brightly having gone in behind. Did Anthony think the timing of Brownhill's goal, which came five minutes into the second half, came at an important time?
“Yes, for sure. As a team I thought we started slow in the second half and we didn’t want to do that. They started fast, probably had a few chances, so we needed that goal from Browny. Then we could control the game, shut it down and I thought we did that well, everyone put in a shift, and we got the three points.”
And he was happy to see Josh Brownhill, Josh Cullen and Josh Laurent's celebrations.
“It was amazing! They talked about it before and yeah, I was happy to see it!”
With three points secured on the road, Anthony wants to build on the Clarets impressive stats so far this season, seven unbeaten and four clean sheets.
“That’s what we want to do, we want to be a tough team to play against. Four clean sheets in a row is good going and hopefully we can keep that going.”
Finally, with two games in quick succession the winger is ready for a busy few days.
“Yes, that’s what this league is and hopefully we can go to Hull and get another good result. We know it will be another tough game, but we’ll come prepared after another good performance.”
