Jaidon Anthony was taking the positives from the Clarets' final pre-season friendly against Lazio at Turf Moor despite the Italian visitors edging it on the day.
Happy to be back in front of the home fans, Anthony who came close to scoring on the afternoon, said he was taking plenty of encouragement from the Clarets' performance.
"Definitely encouraging signs. First half, I thought we played really well and had our moments in the game. It’s a disappointing way to end it, obviously conceding from our set piece but we’ll take the learnings. A big week ahead and we’re looking forward to the start of the season.”
Anthony enjoyed several chances, hitting the crossbar twice on the afternoon and whilst disappointed not to hit the back of the net, he believes the goals will come.
“I had my chances and yeah, as long as I'm getting in the areas, I believe the goals will come. Today was no different, I had my chances – probably should have scored the one from the set piece. But like I say, happy to be in the areas and I believe the goals will come. I’m saving them for the season.”
And did the winger enjoy being back in front of the fans on home turf?
“Definitely! It's been a long time since we've been here. It’s always nice to be at home in front of our fans.
“They brought the energy today and we’re looking forward to being back here for the second game. It’s been really nice to be back here.”
The Clarets have welcomed several new signings over the course of the summer transfer window so far and Anthony is pleased with how the new lads are settling in both on and off the pitch.
“I’ve loved it! They’ve settled in well. Not only on the pitch, I think they’re top players, but off the pitch I think we’ve brought in some top characters – some good people who have fitted in well. Hopefully they can help us over the course of the season, I’m sure they will.”
Finally, next weekend sees the Clarets kick off their Premier League campaign away to Spurs and Anthony can't wait to get going in the top-flight.
“I can’t wait. This is what this pre-season has all been about, to get ready for the first game. We’re all excited and can’t wait to go!”
