Jaidon Anthony celebrated a 'perfect' Friday night following an entertaining four-goal victory against Sheffield Wednesday.

The winger contributed heavily, netting two assists on the night in a game that saw Marcus Edwards, Josh Brownhill, Connor Roberts and Manuel Benson on the scoresheet.

“Yeah, it was perfect really. Very happy with the win and obviously the goals - we’ve been wanting them at home. A good day for us all round.”

And how did it feel to add another two assists to his tally?

“I’m very happy. It’s a big part of my game trying to create chances for the team. I’m so happy with the assists and they were great finishes from the boys. So, very happy!”

The visitors didn't make it easy for the home side at Turf Moor, with Danny Röhl's team having several early chances and making it uncomfortable for the Clarets for large parts of the game.

“Yes, they’re a good side and they started really well. I don’t think we really did.

“The start of the game was difficult; we rode our luck at times and dug deep. The second half we took a bit more control and played more like how we want to be playing. So, happy days.”

January signing Marcus Edwards got the breakthrough goal shortly before half-time and Anthony said the timing of the goal was ideal.

“He’s an unbelievable player and we probably needed that in that moment. We didn’t have as much control as we wanted to, and it was the perfect time for us to go in ahead even though we weren’t really happy with the performance, and we knew we needed to improve. We needed that and it was the perfect time for us.”

It was a second half with plenty of creativity and attacking intent from Scott Parker's men and, looking back, the 25-year-old feels the subs brought a real energy to proceedings.

“Even in the second half I thought they started fast as well, and we had to dig deep again. The goal came at the perfect time. The subs came on and gave us a real energy.

“Browny with his first touch and then Connor in the perfect position, he’s not usually there, I was surprised to see him! But I was happy he was and then from there we could put our mark on the game and control the tempo. I thought we did that well. Then the fourth goal comes from a bit of magic from Benny and then we could see the game out, it was really good.”

It was a trademark Benson goal, has Anthony seen him do that a lot in training?

“Yes, but not so much with his right foot, we were all a bit shocked about the right foot! But we know how much quality he’s got, and we know how much he can help the team. I’m sure he’s probably been a bit frustrated at times because he’s that good a player that he could be playing in many teams in this league. When he’s on, you can see what he’s got. We were all happy for him.”

Last weekend, despite coming close on many occasions, the Clarets couldn't quite find that goal against Preston North End at Deepdale. How much confidence does Anthony feel tonight's win will give them heading into the Emirates FA Cup trip back there next Saturday?

“Definitely. I thought the performance at Deepdale was good, we created a lot of chances and on another day, it looks different, the narrative looks different, we win the game comfortably.

“Going there again next weekend after this performance we’ll be full of confidence and hopefully we can have a better result.

“We’ve been doing well in the cup. We want to keep that going, it’s a great opportunity for us. If we win that game who knows what can happen so we’re going there on Saturday looking to win that game for sure.”
