Swiss striker Zeki Amdouni got his goals tally off to a start at Nottingham Forest's City Ground in the cup and is hoping to continue in this vein in the Premier League.
Arriving from FC Basel in July the 22-year-old is settling into life in the northwest and resuming the Clarets league campaign on Monday night's trip to Nottinghamshire.
“As a footballer you’re going to change clubs and I have, but my move here to England and to Burnley has been pretty easy. I like the place and I certainly like the people. The only thing I would say is that the weather's been pretty cold! Apart from that, it’s all good.
“To have Vincent Kompany shows the ambition that we have here at the club and his own ambition as a coach, having a legendary ex-player like him as a coach helps a great deal. He brings enormous attributes to the club and obviously in terms of the defending. Also, throughout his career he’s come up against some outstanding attacking players, so he brings all of that to his game.”
On the differences between his previous club and Burnley, Amdouni added: “I think Basel is certainly a big, if not the biggest club in Switzerland. My last season there wasn’t so great, the target was always to be first there but it’s completely different here. It’s very, very competitive in the Premier League, there are so many big clubs in it. I think Burnley is a very historic club and perhaps there’s more pressure in the Swiss Super League when you lose a match, than you might experience here. I’d say the Burnley fans are extremely passionate, really good fans and they certainly love their football.”
It's been a challenging start for the Clarets who are hoping to pick up the first win in the league against Forest but Amdouni believes the side have shown elements of quality in the games played so far.
“We’ve come up against some fairly tough opponents early on, but I think we’ve shown some good qualities to our performances. I think the Man City match, the first one of the season, was particularly a good showing from us - we take the good points from that, lets not forget we’ve had the Cup match so far as well where we’ve put in some good performances at Forest.”
It was Amdouni's goal that sealed the win in that game and he was happy to hit the back of the net.
“It’s really good to score of course and as an attacking player that’s what you’re there for and that’s what I set out to do. To score is great but just to win the match is your first priority, as you cross that line. Scoring was great and I hope it will continue.”
The striker was one of many new faces to join the squad in the summer and Amdouni says the team are gelling over their commitment to succeed.
“It can be difficult; we did a great performance last season which finished well for us, so we really have to set out to do the same thing. The Premier League is very difficult, however in the first three matches you’ve been able to see we’re going out there with full commitment and hopefully we can bring back some great results.”
With Forest on the horizon, Amdouni is hoping that the Clarets preparation will stand them in good stead on the evening.
“We set out to win every game we play; we don’t want to lose. I think we’ve planned this next match against Forest in depth. It’s a Monday after this international break so we’ve had plenty of time to prepare for this next league game. Hopefully we can go out there and give the best performance we can, win and hopefully take away three points.
“As an attacking player the bar is set very high, the targets are to score goals. For me, my priorities are to train well, get into a rhythm of being selected and hopefully get out there and score plenty of goals.”
