Welcome back to Turf Moor, as we host the players, directors, and supporters of Norwich City following their successful promotion back to the Premier League last season.
Whilst early days in the season, this is a big game for both clubs, with Norwich - like ourselves - at the wrong end of the table after a difficult start to the campaign. I know that Sean and the players will be giving their all to get our season fully up and running with a first three points this afternoon.
We head into today’s game following a good victory in the Carabao Cup against Rochdale and a thrilling draw at Leicester last Saturday.
The strong performance at the King Power Stadium demonstrated the Premier League quality that our squad possesses and served as a reminder of our ability to cause a shock against a side which has achieved so much in recent seasons.
Having led the game twice, I was disappointed we couldn’t bring all three points back from the East Midlands, something which looked certain when Chris Wood ‘scored’ in the dying moments of the game, only to be ruled out by VAR. But the performance was there for all to see and having led in four of our six Premier League games this season, I know that the team will be focussing hard on making us more watertight and converting these strong displays into victories.
Away from the action on the pitch, the club was delighted by the response to our campaign with the Alzheimer’s Society for the game against Rochdale.
The raffle for our one-off shirts raised several thousand for the charity, whilst it also benefitted from fantastic awareness on World Alzheimer’s Day, with great support from our players and the media to get this important message out there. I’d like to thank all the supporters who took part in the raffle along with our Principal Partner Spreadex, who helped make this possible by donating their space on the front of our shirt.
Today’s game marks Sean’s 400th in charge of the Clarets, which is a fantastic achievement for any manager to record at the same club. We look forward to making more milestones in the future following Sean’s recent contract extension, and let’s hope we can mark the landmark with a win this afternoon.
Up the Clarets!
